Bali garden decor comes out of a stone-carving tradition that has supplied the international market for decades. The quality spectrum is wide, from mass-produced tourist pieces to genuinely crafted sculptural work that landscape designers specify for high-end private gardens, hotels, and spas. The difference in quality is obvious up close. Finding the workshops at the right end of that spectrum, and checking every piece before it ships, is what I offer.

Stone ornaments and weather
Most Bali stone garden ornaments are made from paras stone or lavastone. The considerations for outdoor use are the same as on the natural stone pages. Lavastone ornaments hold up in frost far better than paras stone, especially when sealed, and upright pieces such as statues and planters shed rain, which helps them through winter. Paras stone is better in temperate or warm climates, or in protected positions.
