Why lavastone works in European climates
This comes up a lot. Lavastone’s density gives it excellent freeze-thaw resistance, important for clients in Germany, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, and northern France where temperatures drop below zero. Properly sealed lavastone handles winter conditions well. This is the main reason I steer cold-climate clients here rather than to paras stone, which is softer and more absorbent.
Its dark colour also works particularly well in northern light. In spaces where pale stone washes out, lavastone holds its character. Where a paler floor is wanted with similar durability, limestone from Bali is the alternative.
Frequently asked questions
Does lavastone need sealing?
For interior floors: a penetrating sealer is recommended to prevent staining. For outdoor use: a sealer with freeze-thaw rating if you’re in a climate that drops below 0°C. I’ll advise on appropriate products for your application.
What sizes can you source?
Standard floor tile sizes: 30x30cm, 40x40cm, 60x60cm, 60x30cm. Custom sizes are possible with minimum order quantities. Irregular split-face cladding is sold by the square metre. I’ll confirm what’s available from current stock at the time of your order.
Can lavastone be used around a pool?
Yes, with a sandblasted finish for non-slip safety. Lavastone is also highly resistant to chlorine and salt water, which makes it popular for pool surrounds and spa areas.
How does the weight affect shipping?
