Rattan Furniture from Bali

It’s everywhere in interior design right now. There’s a reason Bali is the source.

Rattan, wicker, and cane furniture have made a genuine comeback in international interior design, from boutique hotels in Europe to high-end retail in Australia and the USA. And Bali produces some of the best. The island’s rattan craftspeople work with techniques refined over generations. The quality difference between Bali rattan and mass-produced alternatives from China is immediately visible. The weave is tighter, the finishing is more careful, and the designs have actual character.

Rattan furniture I source from Bali

  • Armchairs and occasional chairs
  • Dining chairs and benches
  • Lounge sofas and sectional sets
  • Hanging chairs and pod chairs
  • Headboards and bedroom pieces
  • Storage baskets and shelving units
  • Decorative accent pieces

Rattan sits mostly in the indoor furniture range. Retailers building a Bali range around it usually add handmade lighting and decor to the same container. See how I work with online stores and retailers.

Natural vs synthetic rattan, and which one you need

Natural rattan

Harvested from rattan palm. Beautiful, lightweight, biodegradable. Best for indoor use or sheltered outdoor settings. Ages gracefully.

Synthetic PE rattan

Weather-resistant polyethylene woven over a metal frame. Designed specifically for outdoor use. Doesn’t fade, crack, or absorb moisture. Better for exposed outdoor applications, and it sits alongside the teak in my outdoor furniture range.

I’ll advise on the right material for your intended application and climate. Most export orders for European clients mix both: natural for interiors, synthetic for outdoor garden furniture. Whichever you choose, the weave and the frame are checked during quality control before shipping.

Rattan has seen significant demand growth in the past 3 years and some workshops have order backlogs. I’ll give you a realistic production timeline before you commit to anything.
